Day 3 –
A third, and final, fabulous day at Robin Wood! We really are proud of all of the children – they have represented our school and your families so well, and they have all developed new skills they didn’t know they could! They have been complimented on their manners and behaviour and it’s been an excellent trip all round, well done everybody! I am sure they (and we) will sleep well tonight! In English our work is based around the Colin Thompson book – The Paper bag Prince. This book looks at the problems of pollution and particularly plastic pollution. It delves into the devastating effects discarded litter can have on places and communities and what we might do to help heal the earth. We then use our learning to create persuasive writing with the use of emotive language, sentence structure and punctuation. Linking to our art skills, we have designed posters to be displayed around school, persuading children to bin their litter.
In Maths we will look at geometry and measure and one of my own personal favourites, Roman Numerals.
Science takes on two topics, firstly: Living Things, where we look at the way that humans develop throughout their lives. We will create a timeline indicating the growth and development that takes place from birth, through puberty and all the way through to old age. We will also look at Properties and changes of materials. We will compare and group things according to their properties. We look at solids liquids and gasses and investigate reversible and irreversible changes. We will try to separate materials using filtering and evaporation and look at fair tests as a way of thinking scientifically.
Our history topic this half term looks at the legacy of the Ancient Greeks. We delve into who they were, when they were around and who lived on Mount Olympus. We look at how they were governed and the way in which we still feel their influence to this day. Were they the forefathers of democracy? This topic has a heavy focus on philosophy.
In geography this term, as we were due to study a European country, we have chosen to look at Greece to fit in seamlessly (in theory) with our history topic. We will look at key facts, the climate and landscape, its economy and how people live.
In French we learn about french verbs and discuss French week. Children will also be learning about names for family members, how to address people, and names of animals.
