Forest School Year 5

We are very excited to be starting our Forest School sessions. This year, we are being led by Miss Alcock and we know that she has lots of exciting things planned for us to do over the next few weeks.  We hope you enjoy seeing what we have been doing each week.

Week 1 – Firstly we reminded ourselves of the forest school rules, so that we could have lots of fun whilst staying safe before playing lots of our favourite games.  Whilst a group of us practiced and developed our fire lighting skills with Miss Alcock, some of us made some natural mandala art patterns with Miss Jowitt. Our favourite part of the afternoon was most definitely having the chance to explore our forest school again and get muddy, some of us got very muddy!

Week 2 – This week, we were preparing for Remembrance Day,  We made crosses using sticks, wool and paper poppies to add to our school Remembrance display.

Week 3 –   This week, we went back in history to the time of the Maya.  We made hot chocolate on the  campfire, the way they would have done, we then made it the modern way, tried both and then looked at the similarities and differences.  We unanimously agreed that we prefer hot chocolate the modern way.  Unfortunately, due to technical issues, we do not have any photos of this weeks activities.

Week 4 –  We stayed with history this week and made our own traditional Mayan tortillas.  When we weren’t cooking, we were  trying out our new den building kit and seeing who could build the best shelter.

Week 5 – Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great this week, so we didn’t manage a lot of time outside, but we did manage to play a few games and had a go at making some star decorations.  Ipads don’t like the rain, so we only have a couple of photos from this week.
